We offer support and treatment for individuals affected by chronic blepharospasm—a neurological condition that causes uncontrollable blinking or twitching of the eyelids. While occasional eyelid twitching is common and usually harmless, chronic blepharospasm can significantly impact daily life and comfort.
What Is Chronic Blepharospasm?
Blepharospasm refers to involuntary movements of the eyelid muscles, including frequent blinking, twitching, or eyelid closure. In more severe cases—known as benign essential blepharospasm—this condition becomes chronic and can cause functional blindness, discomfort, and social anxiety.
Common symptoms include:
- Excessive blinking
- Eye irritation or dryness
- Difficulty keeping the eyes open
- Increased sensitivity to light
How Botox® Helps
Botox® is a proven treatment for managing chronic blepharospasm. When injected into the affected eyelid muscles, Botox® blocks the nerve signals responsible for muscle contractions, helping to reduce or stop the twitching.
Most individuals require Botox® injections every 3 to 4 months to maintain symptom control.
