What Dermal Fillers Can Treat

Dermal fillers are versatile and can address a wide range of age-related and structural concerns, including:

  • Tear troughs and under-eye hollows
  • Temple volume loss
  • Hollow or sunken cheeks
  • Sagging or hollow mid-face
  • Marionette lines and nasolabial folds
  • Smoothing of vertical lip lines and smile lines
  • Thinning lips or undefined lip borders
  • Chin and jawline definition
  • Reduction of jowls
  • Full facial balancing and profile refinement
  • Acne scars and pitted scars
  • Aging hands

What to Expect

Before Treatment

  • Comprehensive consultation and facial assessment
  • Discussion of treatment goals, medical history, and potential risks
  • Photos may be taken for before-and-after comparison
  • Skin is cleansed and prepped; numbing cream may be applied if desired

During Treatment

  • Fillers are injected using fine needles or cannulas depending on the area and goal
  • You may feel light pressure or a pinch—most filler formulas contain lidocaine for comfort
  • Treatment typically takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated

After Treatment

  • Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness may occur for 1–3 days
  • Bruising is possible and varies from person to person
  • Most patients return to regular activities the same day or the next

What to Know Before Your Treatment

  • Avoid alcohol, blood-thinning medications, and supplements (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for 48–72 hours before treatment, if medically appropriate.
  • Postpone treatment if you have active acne, cold sores, or skin infections in the area.
  • Do not receive filler within 2 weeks of a major event, as swelling or bruising may temporarily affect appearance.
  • Let your provider know if you’ve had previous facial treatments, such as laser, microneedling, or Botox.
  • Stay well hydrated and arrive with clean skin—no makeup, lotions, or skincare products.

Results & Recovery

  • Results are visible immediately and continue to refine over the next 1–2 weeks as swelling subsides
  • Most fillers last 6–18 months, depending on the area treated and the specific product used
  • Regular maintenance is recommended to sustain results and support long-term collagen production
  • Subtle adjustments over time can help maintain facial balance and natural-looking rejuvenation

Not Suitable If You

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have an active skin infection, cold sore, or rash in the treatment area
  • Have a history of severe allergic reactions to dermal fillers or lidocaine

Frequently asked questions

Dermal Fillers image
  • How long do dermal fillers last?

Most hyaluronic acid fillers last between 6 to 18 months, depending on the area treated, the product used, and your body’s metabolism.

  • Will I look “overdone”?

Not at all. At West Kootenay Skin Clinic, we specialize in natural-looking, subtle enhancements. Our goal is to help you look refreshed—not frozen or overfilled.

  • Is there any downtime?

There is minimal downtime. You may experience mild swelling or bruising for a few days, but most clients resume normal activities shortly after treatment.

  • Do filler injections hurt?

Most patients find the treatment very tolerable. The fillers contain lidocaine, and we offer numbing cream for added comfort.

  • Can dermal fillers be reversed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that safely breaks down the filler if needed.

  • How do I know which filler is right for me?

During your consultation, we’ll assess your facial anatomy and discuss your goals to select the best product and technique for your needs.
